Install Clockworkmod Recovery on Sony Xperia P (CWM)

If you’re thinking to try out new Custom ROM, Cyanogenmod or the Latest Android 4.4 KitKat on Xperia P then you’re gonna need this guide. Following this guide will not upgrade your device but it will help to get one step closer to upgrading. In this step by step guide we’re going to show you how to install Clockworkmod recovery on Sony Xperia P. Clockworkmod Recovery is also know as CWM Recovery so please don’t get confused between two, both are same.

CWM or Clockworkmod is a custom recovery which is to be installed on Xperia P if you want to upgrade its Android version. Like all android smartphone Xperia P also comes with a pre-installed recovery which is known as Stock Recovery. But unfortunately the Stock recovery is not fit for upgrading, there is no option to flash/install Android 4.4 KitKat ROM zip, so as to continue upgrading first you have to Install Clockworkmod Recovery. Lets check out what are the requirement.

Clockworkmod Recovery for Sony Xperia P - Requirements

Before you went for installing custom recovery there are two more steps need to be completed. You have to unlock your xperia P bootloader and then root it. After that you’ll be able to install the recovery. So follow our guide to complete those step, then come back here. If you have already completed bellow 2 steps then let install Clockworkmod recovery.

1) Unlock Xperia P Bootloader

2) Root Sony Xperia P

Steps to Install Clockworkmod Recovery on Sony Xperia P

There are two different ways to Install this Cwm recovery on Xperia P. You go for any one.

Method – I

1) Enable USB Debugging on Xperia P from Setting > Developer Options.

2) Enable Unknown Source on Xperia P from Setting > Security.

3) Now connect your Phone to computer, wait for a moment let the driver stabilize itself.

4) Download this CWM Recovery Installer.

5) Extract it to your DESKTOP.

6) Double click the Install.bat file to run it


7) This is an automated program, wait until the process get completed and it shows “Press any Key to continue”.

8) Now tap the Enter key on your keyboard and it’s done.

You have successfully Installed Clockworkmod Recovery on Sony Xperia P.

  • If you want to confirm whether the whole process worked fine or not :-
    • Switch OFF your Phone
    • Press and Hold Power and Volume down button to make your device boot in recovery mode.

If somehow the Method – I don’t work for you, then try the method – II bellow.

Method – II

1) Download the RecoveryX installer.

2) Extract it to your desktop.

3) Now open the extract folder and double click on RecoveryX.exe ( one with blue lightning icon)

4) You will get two Drop down menu, From the 1st drop down menu select “SONY”.

5) From the next drop down menu, select Xperia P.

6) Now click the Next button bellow.

7) Wait for few minute, the installer will download the required recovery file from it’s server.

8) When the installer says file has been download, click NEXT button to proceed. Just do what it says.

9) Now Enable USB debugging on your Xperia P from Setting > Developer Options.

10) After connect your phone to Computer with USB and wait for a moment, let the driver stabilize itself.

11) Now hit the Next button on the installer.

12) You will get a popup message, to confirm the installation, Select Yes from the popup.

Now the installer will start sending the recovery file on to your Xperia P.

After the installation over, close the RecoveryX installer and disconnect your phone.

    I used method 1 to install cwm recovery. After installing, its showing that my cwm version is and the one shown on your picture is 6.0.2. something.

    Thanks for the detailed tutorial, I tried both Method 1 and 2 method I didn’t worked giving an weird USB error, but Method II worked for me. Thanks again, hope to see some good ROM for Sony Xperia P.
